Author Dan Gutman visited the Lower Division on Wednesday to present to, have lunch with, and sign books for K-3rd graders. Gutman primarily writes children’s fiction books, such as Baseball Card Adventures and the My Weird School series. This was Gutman’s second time visiting the school.

Gutman is a popular author with Lower Division students, Associate Lower Division Librarian Patricia VanderWerff, who was one of the organizers of the visit, said. The visit was especially intriguing to Lower Division students because many of them have already read Gutman’s books, she said.

The purpose of the visit was to further excite student reading as Gutman’s mission has always been to encourage children to love reading, VanderWerff said. “Our students really enjoy meeting and spending time with the authors whose books they love to read,” she said.

Gutman began the day by presenting to the Kindergarten and first graders, followed by another presentation to the third-graders. He signed books and then ate lunch in the Lower Division Reading Room with the second and third graders. He ended his day by presenting to the second graders.
