With an outstanding pitching performance by Ethan Schwartz (11), the Lions rallied to beat Dalton 4-2 in their first league win this season.

After falling behind 0-2 the Lions tied the game in the 6th. Catcher David Sukenick (11) singled to score the tying run.

The Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse team will end its season today against Curtis High School. Despite the team’s successes this season, team members expressed regret that if they beat Curtis they would finish with a record of eight wins and eight losses.

“Our season has been okay,” Coach Keri Hall said. “At the beginning of the season I thought we would do better than we have done.”

Varsity Ultimate Frisbee lived up to its Bronx division title of the New York City league with a convincing 15-6 victory against Fieldston on Monday.

With a 15-1 win against Fieldston already under their belts this season, the Lions came into the game confident of their success. The game, however, got off to an unexpected start when the Eagles were able to score four points in the first half, jumping out to an early lead and threatening to put the game away early.

For fifteen hours straight students will play softball, whiffleball, and dodgeball throughout the night at the annual Marathon Softball event, hosted by the Pep Rally Club.

Attendance this year, however, will drop from previous years. Almost one hundred students participated last year, and over seventy participated the year before, Pep-Rally club faculty advisor Ray Barile said. This year the event was almost cancelled due to low participation, he said. Only 42 students had signed up by H Period yesterday, Barile said.

When the Varsity Softball team ran off the field at the end of the 6th inning trailing 6-5 to Hackley, only three outs separated the Lions from a disappointing .500 record in Ivy League play, second loss to the Hornets and an unfavorable seed in the NYSAIS tournament. The Lions, however, had different plans as they stepped up to the plate in the 7th and final inning.

The Lions led off with speedster Clara Hill (9), who walked, stole 2nd base, advanced to 3rd off a sacrifice bunt, and came around to steal the tying run on a wild pitch. After tri-Captain and Center Fielder Emma Frankel (12) drew a walk with one out and nobody on base, Allison Hellman (10) launched a double into left-center field, driving Frankel home for the game-winning run.

Despite suffering its first loss of the season, the Boys’ Varsity Tennis Team clinched its ninth consecutive Ivy League Title this week. After defeating Trinity and Hackley, the Lions improved its league record to 7-0.

On Tuesday, the Lions beat Hackley 7-0 before facing league adversary Trinity. Although the team swept the Tigers 6-0, some of the matches were closer than expected. The second doubles team of Alex Ma (11) and Connor Coughlin (10) lost the first set before coming from behind to win the match. “Dropping the first set really came as a surprise to us,” said Head Coach Chris Lacopo.

Despite finishing the season with a losing record, the Boys’ JV Lacrosse ended with a bang as they took down Trinity 1-0 in its final game on Wednesday.

The Lions finished 2-6-2 and attributes their six losses to a low turnout of players at most games. “We lacked players,” Peter Cronkite (9) said. “We were always playing against the odds.”
